Racing Incident Report
KAISER'S CHOIX and RED WINE SUPREME bounded in the air when the gates opened and lost ground. KE JIA WANG began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped RIGHT CHOICE. After the 900 Metres, KAISER'S CHOIX was steadied and shifted to the inside of AMERICAN VICTORY. Apprentice H W Lai (KE JIA WANG) reported near the 800 Metres his saddle shifted back, placing him at a disadvantage. At the 800 Metres, RACING SPIRIT and RARE COLLECTION bumped. Near the 300 Metres, AMERICAN VICTORY was momentarily eased away from the heels of HK ISLAND VICTORY which at this time was carried in by SUPER SPECIAL. A Delpech (SUPER SPECIAL) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over about the final 250 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount which was hanging in from shifting ground, thereby continually carrying HK ISLAND VICTORY from running to which it was rightfully entitled. A Delpech was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 25 September 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 14 September 2004. In addition, A Delpech was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Near the 200 Metres, Y T Cheng (GOOD VIEW SUCCESS) dropped his whip. Over the concluding stages, KAISER'S CHOIX hung out. M Rodd (CENTURY SUPER STAR) said he had been instructed to endeavour to obtain a trailing position. He said because of this near the 900 Metres he steadied his mount and came back to a position behind RACING SPIRIT and ONE MORE ROUND. He said CENTURY SUPER STAR raced a little greenly and shifted ground on several occasions, then after the 400 Metres when he placed CENTURY SUPER STAR under pressure the horse shifted in towards the heels of RACING SPIRIT, he therefore steadied and shifted out. He said after this CENTURY SUPER STAR commenced to make ground and he shifted to the outside of RARE COLLECTION to continue going forward. When questioned regarding the performance of RACING SPIRIT, O Doleuze said the horse's work leading into today's race had been in his opinion good. He said RACING SPIRIT jumped well, he was unable to obtain a trail, however, RACING SPIRIT travelled comfortably until the 400 Metres. He said when he endeavoured to improve his position at this time RACING SPIRIT failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. He did point out when racing first up last season RACING SPIRIT had been working well and performed poorly. RACING SPIRIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of RACING SPIRIT after the race did not show any significant findings. HK ISLAND VICTORY and SUPER SPECIAL were sent for sampling.
