Racing Incident Report
CYPRESS HILL began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted out and bumped CHINSOLA. SOPRANO was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between DORDENMA and SHANGHAI KING which was carried in slightly by SHABU SHABU. After this, SHANGHAI KING was bumped by SHABU SHABU. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHINSOLA became unbalanced when racing tight inside FORTUNE WARRIOR which itself was racing tight inside CELEBRATION. At the 1200 Metres, CYPRESS HILL was steadied away from the heels of AMBITIOUS TYCOON. Prior to straightening, SHABU SHABU became unbalanced after bumping the running rail. Shortly after straightening, FORTUNE WARRIOR got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of AMBITIOUS TYCOON. In the early part of the Straight, SOPRANO was reluctant to shift to the outside of SHANGHAI KING into clear running. After the 200 Metres, CHINSOLA was shifted to the inside of CYPRESS HILL to continue going forward. Near the 100 Metres, FORTUNE WARRIOR shifted in and bumped AMBITIOUS TYCOON which in the Straight had been hanging out. C Munce (DON RICARDO) said at no stage of tonight's race did the horse travel comfortably. He said making the first turn the horse was inclined to hang out. He said along the Back Straight he was following SHANGHAI KING and he hoped to track that horse forward into the race, however, he was unable to do so and in his opinion DON RICARDO was most disappointing. D Whyte (DORDENMA) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said after passing the winning post on the first occasion he allowed DORDENMA to stride forward in the lead as at that time AMBITIOUS TYCOON attempted to steady the tempo. He said once reaching the lead, DORDENMA travelled comfortably within itself, however, in the Straight did not respond to his riding and gave ground. Mr C H Yip, trainer of DORDENMA, said on the strength of its recent track work he had advised the connections that he believed DORDENMA had a strong winning chance in tonight's race. He said he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of DORDENMA. He did say he would consider having DORDENMA ridden with cover at its next start, however, he was satisfied that the horse led as intended tonight because of the anticipated slow pace. DORDENMA was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, DORDENMA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings. The performance of DORDENMA was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, DORDENMA will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DON RICARDO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DON RICARDO after the race did not show any significant findings. SHANGHAI KING and SOPRANO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 16 February 2006)
DON RICARDO, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DON RICARDO was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DON RICARDO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
