Racing Incident Report
SPEEDING MOLLY and SHERIFF BAMBOO were slow to begin. GAUCHO began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the inside gate of its stall. From the outside barrier, throughout the race, DRAGON AND GOLD travelled in a forward position, however, was wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. DRAGON AND GOLD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DRAGON AND GOLD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood and mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON AND GOLD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after straightening, SHERIFF BAMBOO was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of KINGSTON WINNER. Near the 200 Metres, when commencing to close the race off, SHERIFF BAMBOO was steadied when disappointed for running between SHOGUN which was giving ground and KINGSTON WINNER which shifted out. For some distance after this, SHERIFF BAMBOO continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running. K S Yu (MY LUCK) said he had been instructed from a wide barrier to ride the horse about midfield if possible. He said MY LUCK began well, he immediately took hold of his mount in an endeavour to obtain a midfield position. He said as he did this runners on his inside went forward, he then shortly afterwards commenced to ride along in an endeavour to maintain a position outside SHOGUN. He said MY LUCK did not respond to his riding and got further back than anticipated. He said in the middle stages he was wide, MY LUCK was inclined to lay in and as a consequence shifted a little closer to the rail. He said on straightening he shifted MY LUCK to the outside of the field where the horse closed the race off only fairly. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HAPPY PARTNERS at the request of the trainer. The Veterinary Officer reported this showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY PARTNERS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CALIFORNIA PRINCE and GAUCHO were sent for sampling.
