Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, WAIT FOR ME bounded in the air, causing Apprentice C W Wong, its rider, to become unbalanced. As a consequence, WAIT FOR ME lost ground. On jumping, JOYFUL UNION and PASSION bumped. As a result of this, JOYFUL UNION shifted in and inconvenienced KING HOGAN which lost ground. SO NICE hung out making the first turn. Near the 1400 Metres, NOBLE WIND was checked when crowded for room between CHINA SPORTFIELD and JUST IN TIME, both of which shifted ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. At the 1300 Metres, JOYFUL UNION was steadied when awkwardly placed between GOLD DIGGER and MAGIC TOUCH. Approaching and passing the 800 Metres, KIDDY SING proved difficult to settle. At the 800 Metres, JOYFUL UNION was carried wider by CENAMIRA which at this time shifted out away from the heels of MAGIC TOUCH which itself was steadied away from the heels of KIDDY SING. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, SO NICE hung out and was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE WIND. Some inconvenience was caused to PACIFIC ALLIANCE which was following. Approaching the 400 Metres, KIDDY SING was checked severely to avoid the heels of JUST IN TIME which at this point commenced to give ground quickly. From the 300 Metres until near the 200 Metres, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was held up and unable to improve inside SO NICE which was hanging in. Over the final 200 Metres, SO NICE then hung out. For the major part of the race, PASSION travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight hung out. The performances of JOYFUL UNION and GOLD DIGGER, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, JOYFUL UNION and GOLD DIGGER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte (MAGIC TOUCH) said he travelled in a rearward position as usual, after the 600 Metres he shifted out to follow CENAMIRA forward and at the same time KING HOGAN made its run on his outside. He said on straightening clear running presented itself towards the inside of PASSION which was hanging out and he had in his mind the inside section of the track had been "coned off" during track work and because of this was firmer, he therefore decided to shift towards the run inside PASSION as he believed this would afford his horse a better opportunity given the track conditions. He said over about the final 200 Metres he was not able to obtain clear running as a result of NOBLE WIND drifting out when giving ground. He said because of this MAGIC TOUCH was not properly tested. The explanation submitted by D Whyte was recorded. WAIT FOR ME and JUST IN TIME were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WAIT FOR ME after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, JUST IN TIME was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, JUST IN TIME will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAGIC TOUCH, BIG WINNER and CHINA SPORTFIELD were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 5 June 2006)
The Senior Veterinary Officer reported that KIDDY SING was this morning found to have a cut and swollen right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, KIDDY SING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
