Racing Incident Report

ONLY YOU began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped KING OF SPADES. NAMJONG GOODLUCK was slow to muster speed despite being ridden along, then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. In the early and middle stages, THAT'S IT proved difficult to settle. Over the final 200 Metres, DESERT STRIKE hung in and proved difficult to ride. At the 150 Metres, LA MERVEILLE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of ONLY YOU which at this time shifted ground. At the 50 Metres, KING OF SPADES got its head on the side and shifted in. Because of this, O Doleuze, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount. For the major part of the race, DONGGUAN VICTORY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, B Prebble (JUBILOSO) explained the intention had been to have the horse ridden in a forward position as it had been when successful at its previous start. He said JUBILOSO began well, he urged it along out of the barriers, however, the horse did not show the same early speed as it had at its previous start. He said about 100 Metres after the start he looked to his inside and saw a number of runners going forward and in his opinion given the lack of dash being shown by JUBILOSO he would have been required to make too much use of the horse to clear those runners in the run to the first turn. He said he was aware this section of the race was being run at a slower tempo than at JUBILOSO's previous start. He said he was concerned that if he were to press forward, he would be left racing at least three wide and without cover which would place JUBILOSO at a disadvantage. He said therefore in the run to the winning post on the first occasion he initially allowed other runners to go forward of him and then at the winning post on the first occasion steadied and shifted in to a position one off the rail behind AURELIAN, however, much further back than anticipated. He did point out JUBILOSO had previously performed well when being ridden in a rearward position. He said after the field passed the winning post on the first occasion the tempo of the race steadied. He said JUBILOSO travelled comfortably, however, for him to have improved his position after having decided to go back would have required him in his opinion to cover substantial additional ground. He said for the majority of the Straight JUBILOSO had clear running, after the 100 Metres he shifted to the outside of CHERISHED which was giving ground and JUBILOSO finished the race off strongly. B Prebble said the manner in which JUBILOSO raced indicated it would at this stage of its preparation be best suited at distances of further than 1650 Metres. Mr D J Hall, trainer of JUBILOSO, confirmed the instructions were to have the horse ridden in a manner similar to when it was successful at its most recent start. He said JUBILOSO being taken back in the early stages was of some concern to him as the manner in which tonight's race was run did not suit horses racing back in the field. Mr Hall said JUBILOSO was strongly fancied by the stable tonight and had been well supported by the stable and connections. B Prebble acknowledged after viewing the films that he had erred in making his decision to go back too shortly after the start of the race. He was severely reprimanded and told his ride in the opinion of the Stewards was not one of his better ones and in slightly different circumstances he could find himself in breach of a serious Rule of Racing. The evidence of Mr Hall was accepted. JUBILOSO was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. NAMJONG GOODLUCK was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JUBILOSO and NAMJONG GOODLUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. GO GO VICTORY and THAT'S IT were sent for sampling.
