Racing Incident Report

VITAL PATROL was withdrawn on 9.9.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CHALLENGER (K S Yu). CENTURY SUPER STAR was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, VITAL PATROL and CENTURY SUPER STAR will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PIONERO, which was standing with its head turned to the left, began awkwardly and lost ground. SEVENS HEAVEN began awkwardly and bounded in the air. In the early stages, CONQUEROR proved difficult to settle. Near the 600 Metres, CONQUEROR became unbalanced after being bumped by OPERA MAGIC. After the 600 Metres, CHALLENGER was steadied when awkwardly placed between FAT DRAGON and CONQUEROR which shifted in slightly. Between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres, PIONERO had some difficulty obtaining clear running between OPERA MAGIC and SUDDEN SPLENDOR. When questioned, Y T Cheng (THE ONLY ONE) said he had been instructed to ride his mount along a little in the early stages and endeavour to shift across and obtain a position with cover. He said accordingly he rode along from the start, at the 1200 Metres was not aware of a position available to him with cover to his inside, therefore he elected to steady his mount. He said as he did this, OPERA MAGIC commenced to improve through on his inside and as a consequence he remained unable to obtain cover and travelled wide throughout. He said near the 1200 Metres he did not ride along to cross OPERA MAGIC as in his opinion he might have caused inconvenience to that horse as he was only 1½ lengths in front of it. Y T Cheng was told he must at all times be aware of favourable positions available to him in the run. Apprentice C W Wong (OPERA MAGIC) said the horse showed only fair gate speed today and as a consequence travelled behind midfield in the early stages. He said at the 800 Metres when he was not able to obtain cover, OPERA MAGIC commenced to over-race and pulled its way forward whilst wide on the track. OPERA MAGIC and SEVENS HEAVEN were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of OPERA MAGIC and SEVENS HEAVEN after the race did not show any significant findings. AURELIAN, FAT DRAGON and PIONERO were sent for sampling.
