Racing Incident Report
When in the sand yard prior to being brought to the saddling stalls, WONG'S FAVOURITE became fractious, reared and fell. WONG'S FAVOURITE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of WONG'S FAVOURITE. Before being allowed to race again, WONG'S FAVOURITE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPRING SMILES and SEA TREASURE were slow to begin. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHEERFUL HEART was steadied away from the heels of GRABBIT. After entering the Back Straight, HAPPY HEROES proved difficult to settle. Making the Home Turn, MEATH was carried wider by CHEERFUL HEART which at this time shifted to the outside of TRAVEL LEADER. At the 200 Metres, Apprentice P H Lo (BARRACUDA) momentarily dropped his right rein. G Mossé (TRAVEL LEADER) confirmed he had been instructed to ride the horse from a wide barrier in a position with cover if possible. He said in the early stages he obtained a three wide position behind GREEN IN BLUE, however, when that horse went forward to race outside the leader near the 1600 Metres, TRAVEL LEADER was then left racing without cover. He said after entering the Back Straight he was concerned travelling in this position in a slowly run race, therefore he gradually improved his position on TRAVEL LEADER, however, when he did this GREEN IN BLUE and BARRACUDA quickened underneath him and it was therefore in his opinion not possible to continue going forward in an endeavour to cross those runners. He said as a consequence TRAVEL LEADER continued to be without cover for the remainder of the race and in the Straight gave ground. HAPPY HEROES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HAPPY HEROES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. GRABBIT and GREEN IN BLUE were sent for sampling.
