Racing Incident Report

VALUE CHOICE made contact with a rail when entering the track. On arrival at the Start, VALUE CHOICE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CHANTILLY, which was leaning against the inside of its barrier, began awkwardly. PAPAS and MY MELODY bumped at the start. Approaching the 1100 Metres, PAPAS and VALUE CHOICE bumped. Near the 850 Metres, PAPAS raced in restricted room between MY MELODY and BUMBLE BEE which shifted in slightly. Approaching the 800 Metres, BENEFACTOR was reluctant to maintain its position between COUNTRY MAGIC and CHANTILLY. Approaching the 500 Metres, KING FAY FAY was steadied away from the heels of COUNTRY MAGIC. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MARVEL PLUS, B Prebble stated that although the horse performed well last start, it was able to obtain cover on that occasion and relaxed during the race. He said today he was not able to obtain cover on MARVEL PLUS and the horse over-raced in the early and middle stages. He added that at the entrance to the Straight MARVEL PLUS dipped, came off the bit and after this did not respond to his riding. He said although MARVEL PLUS had performed well on a yielding track at its only start in Hong Kong, in his opinion, the horse had not been entirely comfortable on today’s surface. He said the manner in which MARVEL PLUS travelled in the early and middle stages also meant that the horse was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of THAT`S IT after the race did not show any significant findings. MARVEL PLUS, SHOWTIME and SHI SHAN were sent for sampling.
