Racing Incident Report
KILDARE was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was steadied when crowded for room between LOYAL ARMY and TAKE THE RAP which shifted out. From a wide barrier, LONDON CHINA TOWN was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. At the entrance to the Straight, LOYAL ARMY, which was laying in, was steadied away from the heels of EL MORRO which shifted out. NEW GLORY, which was following LOYAL ARMY, was inconvenienced as a consequence. Passing the 200 Metres, NEW GLORY was steadied when disappointed for running between LOYAL ARMY and LONDON CHINA TOWN which shifted out to obtain clear running. When questioned, W M Lai explained that BOSS travelled only fairly during the race. He said after following NEW GLORY passing the 700 Metres, BOSS was crowded for room approaching the 600 Metres when LONDON CHINA TOWN shifted in. He said after this he followed KILDARE. He said passing the 500 Metres he shifted to the outside of LONDON CHINA TOWN to improve his position, however, BOSS continued to travel only fairly. He added in the Straight when ridden out hands and heels, BOSS finished off the race only fairly after having to shift in passing the 200 Metres to the inside of NEW GLORY to continue going forward. He said whilst he did not use the whip on BOSS, having in mind the manner in which BOSS was finishing off the race, he did not believe that the horse would benefit by being struck with the whip in the Straight. W M Lai was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he should at all times ride his mounts in such a fashion so as to leave no room for query. A veterinary inspection of NEW GLORY after the race did not show any significant findings. EL MORRO, TUSCAN SPIRIT and ROYAL FLUSH were sent for sampling.
