Racing Incident Report

After being loaded, WELL DONE became fractious and reared. Before being allowed to race again, WELL DONE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if DARPANA had been afforded a fair start. Evidence was taken from Jockey W C Marwing and Trainer D E Ferraris. After viewing the official videos, it was ascertained that after being loaded, DARPANA became fractious and got its head down and to the left hand side. W C Marwing acknowledged that when this occurred, he called to the Starter who delayed the start. After being corrected by a barrier attendant who was assisting the horse, DARPANA again got its head down and to the left hand side momentarily prior to the start being effected. As the Stewards were of the opinion that DARPANA’S barrier manners had resulted in the horse missing the start badly and losing considerable ground, they ruled that DARPANA had been afforded a fair start and accordingly the horse was deemed to be a runner. Before being allowed to race again, DARPANA will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. From the outside barrier, WELL DONE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1100 Metres, DANEWIN TIGER was steadied away from the heels of COSMO SUCCESSOR which shifted in when barely clear. Near the 250 Metres, EN MASSE was shifted out when disappointed for running inside CAGA BOY. Over the concluding stages, EN MASSE was unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Apprentice K C Leung (OASIS DAVIS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the final 50 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in, resulting in SPEARHEAD being badly crowded for room approaching and passing the winning post. DARPANA, which was following SPEARHEAD, was steadied away from that horse in consequence. Apprentice Leung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday, 13 March 2011 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 6 March 2011. DANEWIN TIGER and DIAMOND RAINBOW were sent for sampling.
