Racing Incident Report
FOLLOW THE WIND began only fairly.
Shortly after the start, GOLDEN SCALPEL was crowded for room between HEI HEI POSH and TRAVEL SMART (D Whyte) which shifted in. D Whyte was advised to exercise more care.
From wide barriers, HEAR THE ROAR and SUPER STRIKE were both taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
At the 1700 Metres, TRAVEL SMART was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of MALAYAN PEARL (U Rispoli) which shifted in. U Rispoli was also advised to exercise due care when shifting ground.
After the 1600 Metres, MALAYAN PEARL momentarily raced in restricted room inside WINNING BOY which was steadied to avoid the heels of MAGNUMOUS (Apprentice C Y Lui) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Lui was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 1400 Metres, OCEAN POWER and LIFE OF BEAUTY raced tight as LIFE OF BEAUTY attempted to shift in and obtain cover.
Making the turn near the 900 Metres, LIFE OF BEAUTY became unbalanced after being bumped by OCEAN POWER which got its head on the side and shifted out.
Close to the finishing line, TRAVEL SMART was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GOLDEN SCALPEL and because of this was not able to be fully tested over the concluding stages.
For the major part of the race, LIFE OF BEAUTY travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that, from barrier 4, he had been asked to ride HEI HEI POSH in about a midfield position or just behind midfield if possible. He said in the early stages he shifted HEI HEI POSH across to race behind PANTHER RUN, however, after the 700 Metres was bumped on a number of occasions by OCEAN POWER which shifted away from the rail and to the outside of PANTHER RUN. He said rather than remain racing in a three wide position, he elected to steady HEI HEI POSH and obtain a position with cover behind OCEAN POWER which resulted in HEI HEI POSH racing further back in the field than had been intended. He added that after the 1100 Metres he had to ride HEI HEI POSH along to maintain its position behind OCEAN POWER, however, the horse, particularly near the 900 Metres, came off the bridle and was not able to hold its position which allowed FOLLOW THE WIND to shift in in front of HEI HEI POSH, causing that horse to be taken back further. He said HEI HEI POSH continued to travel off the bit, so rather than elect to improve to the inside of HEAR THE ROAR, he shifted his mount out from behind FOLLOW THE WIND so that he would be able to immediately position HEI HEI POSH to the outside of runners in the Straight. He said when placed under pressure in the Straight, HEI HEI POSH finished off the race only fairly, however, the circumstances of the race made it difficult for horses to make up ground from back in the field.
A veterinary inspection of ACTIVISM and LIFE OF BEAUTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ACTIVISM, MALAYAN PEARL and MAGNUMOUS were sent for sampling.
