Racing Incident Report

After initially being bumped by SPARKLING SWORD, MY CUP OVERFLOWS (M Chadwick) shifted in shortly after the start, resulting in HOXO being checked when crowded for room outside HOME JOYFUL HOME which was also hampered. M Chadwick was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he would be expected to do more to assist his fellow riders in similar circumstances.
Shortly after the start, FORTUNE TERRITORY was buffeted for room between FAMILY INTERESTS and CELESTIAL SMILE. In this incident, FORTUNE TERRITORY turned its head to the right towards J Moreira, the rider of CELESTIAL SMILE. This matter was brought to the attention of Mr W Y So, the trainer of FORTUNE TERRITORY. FORTUNE TERRITORY was subsequently taken across behind runners.
Also shortly after the start, COMMANDANT shifted in and bumped MONEY CAFE, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
COLOURFUL PROFIT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
PERFECT HEDGE lost its left front plate passing the 1100 Metres and its right front plate after passing the winning post.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, MY CUP OVERFLOWS got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PERFECT HEDGE (H Bowman) which shifted in when not properly clear. H Bowman was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. SPARKLING SWORD, which was following MY CUP OVERFLOWS and proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MY CUP OVERFLOWS for some distance.
For some distance after the 700 Metres, HOXO got its head up when proving very difficult to settle and awkwardly placed close to the heels of OPTIMISM.
Passing the 600 Metres, CELESTIAL SMILE and SPARKLING SWORD raced tight as SPARKLING SWORD shifted to the outside of FAMILY INTERESTS.
At the entrance to the Straight, HOME JOYFUL HOME shifted out abruptly away from the heels of MONEY CAFE.
Approaching the 350 Metres, MONEY CAFE shifted out and made contact with FAMILY INTERESTS.
Near the 50 Metres, PERFECT HEDGE and MY CUP OVERFLOWS bumped, causing both horses to lose balance.
Throughout the race, REALLY THE BEST travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FAMILY INTERESTS, B Prebble stated that although his mount raced in a three wide position, it was able to maintain cover behind REALLY THE BEST which subsequently finished off the race well. He said FAMILY INTERESTS did not travel strongly at any stage and was inclined to get its head on the side and lay out making the first turn after the 900 Metres. He added FAMILY INTERESTS continued to travel only fairly and when placed under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the latter stages of the race. He said FAMILY INTERESTS was only having its 6th race start today and the horse may not have backed up following its last start success. A veterinary inspection of FAMILY INTERESTS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse’s trachea.
A veterinary inspection of SPARKLING SWORD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SPARKLING SWORD, THANKSGIVING and REALLY THE BEST were sent for sampling.
