Racing Incident Report
LEADING FORTUNE was withdrawn on 30.4.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (treated after becoming fractious when being transported) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SO GLORIOUS. Before being allowed to race again, LEADING FORTUNE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SO GLORIOUS began awkwardly.
LITTLE GENERAL bumped the outside of its gate on jumping and then shifted out, resulting in VITAL SPRING being crowded for room and losing ground.
MONSTER KAKA began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped DECISIVE ACTION.
KING DRAGON began only fairly.
From wide barriers, NUREMBERG, STARSHIP and BULLETPROOF were all steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
LITTLE GENERAL lost its left hind plate in the early stages.
Near the 1350 Metres, ENJOY LIFE was steadied away from the heels of LITTLE GENERAL which shifted out.
GLENEALY PALS made the turn after the 900 Metres awkwardly.
SO GLORIOUS got its head on the side and hung out making the Home Turn. DECISIVE ACTION, which was following, SO GLORIOUS, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse passing the 500 Metres. Then in the early part of the Straight, SO GLORIOUS continued to lay out under pressure.
Passing the 250 Metres, BULLETPROOF was shifted to the inside of LITTLE GENERAL to obtain clear running.
The performances of NUREMBERG and AFRICAN SKY, both of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NUREMBERG and AFRICAN SKY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, Apprentice K H Chan stated that he was instructed to lead on SNOW AIRJET. He said in the early stages he had to make some use of SNOW AIRJET to cross runners to his inside which he was able to do passing the 1400 Metres. He said when racing in the lead SNOW AIRJET commenced to travel keenly and would not relax for him. He said he was aware that the race was being run at a fast tempo, however, he was not able to get SNOW AIRJET to switch off and the horse continued to travel strongly with him throughout the early and middle stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of KING DRAGON, A Hamelin stated that although his mount was left racing wide and without cover after the 1400 Metres, he did not believe this provided a legitimate excuse for the horse’s disappointing performance. He said KING DRAGON did not travel well at any stage of the race and he was required to niggle at the horse to maintain its position. He said KING DRAGON came under heavy pressure approaching the 700 Metres and then was most disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of KING DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GALACTIC, J Moreira stated that his mount was able to obtain a good position in the early stages without having to be ridden along. He said GALACTIC travelled keenly in the early stages and would not relax as well as he had hoped. He said he had to ride his mount along passing the 800 Metres to prevent DECISIVE ACTION from being able to shift out to his inside and after this GALACTIC came off the bridle and he had to continue to ride his mount along for some distance after the 700 Metres to maintain its position behind AFRICAN SKY. He said after shifting to the outside of AFRICAN SKY after the 600 Metres, GALACTIC did not quicken as he anticipated and then was very disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the early part of the Straight. He added when under pressure in the Straight GALACTIC hung in and proved difficult to ride, however, the horse was well beaten at this time. He said the manner in which GALACTIC hung in indicated to him that the horse may be experiencing a problem, however, it appeared sound after the race. A veterinary inspection of GALACTIC immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GALACTIC, favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GALACTIC will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GALACTIC, DECISIVE ACTION and ENJOY LIFE were sent for sampling.
