Racing Incident Report
DASHING GENIUS shifted out at the start and bumped FIGHTING STAR.
BLISSFUL STAR began only fairly and then a short distance after the start was awkwardly placed outside the heels of NOBODY KNOWS. After this, despite being ridden along, BLISSFUL STAR failed to muster speed.
FIERY DIAMOND shifted out at the start and bumped THUNDERSTRIKE which became unbalanced. A short distance after this, FIERY DIAMOND and MELBOURNE HALL brushed.
Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, REGENCY STAR failed to muster speed and near the 1100 Metres was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Passing the 800 Metres, DRAGON BABY commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was checked away from the heels of BLISSFUL STAR. DRAGON BABY then made the turn near the 700 Metres awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of MELBOURNE HALL.
Also making the turn near the 700 Metres, MELBOURNE HALL was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BLISSFUL STAR which got its head on the side and lay out.
THUNDERSTRIKE raced close to the heels of BELL OF VICTORY near the 650 Metres.
Passing the 250 Metres, DRAGON BABY was shifted in a number of horses to obtain clear running.
Near the 150 Metres, DRAGON BABY was momentarily crowded for room inside DASHING GENIUS which was then directed out to relieve the crowding.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FIERY DIAMOND, J Moreira stated that, in his opinion, the horse’s failure to finish the race off tonight was attributable to the amount of use that he had to make of the horse in the early stages to clear runners to its inside and obtain a forward position. He said from a wide barrier he had to ride his mount along continually in the early stages to cross BELL OF VICTORY and JAZZ ANGEL to his inside rather than having to race very wide and without cover. He said he was able to shift across to race outside HAPPY TANGO and he attempted to steady FIERY DIAMOND to allow the horse the opportunity to finish the race off. He said however that after coming under pressure passing the 400 Metres, the early use of FIERY DIAMOND took its toll and the horse then weakened over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of FIERY DIAMOND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of REGENCY STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of THUNDERSTRIKE immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
THUNDERSTRIKE, HAPPY TANGO and JAZZ ANGEL were sent for sampling.
<31/3/2022 Additional Veterinary Reports>FIERY DIAMOND, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. FIERY DIAMOND was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer T P Yung this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FIERY DIAMOND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
