ELEGANT LIFE (J366) near the 900M was steadied. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight rider stated that after following the 5th placegetter, he initially contemplated improving between two runners leaving the 400M. He added that when he was not comfortable there was sufficient room to improve between those two runners he shifted out to follow the 5th placegetter as he felt that runner, which was a favourite in the event, would provide him with the opportunity to follow it into the race. He said when the 5th placegetter did not improve as he had expected and the 4th placegetter maintained its position to that runner’s outside that resulted in his mount being badly held up for clear running over the final 400M and not being able to be ridden out to the finish. Having considered rider’s explanation and whilst he agreed that a run had developed between runners, the Stewards found that the explanation provided was reasonable in the circumstances - Race 039. |
