Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the start, the bumper bandage on the off hind of FURIOSO was removed by the Veterinary Surgeon as it had loosened. FURIOSO jumped awkwardly and threw its head up. GOLDEN BULLET missed the start, was then crowded for room between STAR OF TAI PO and OWNERS' GLORY which shifted in slightly. Near the 900 Metres, MELROSE STAR, which had a tendency to pull and shifted out slightly, clipped the heels of GOLDEN BULLET (K S Yu) which shifted in when not clear. When MELROSE STAR checked, FURIOSO, which was following, was hampered in consequence. After considering all the circumstances in this case, it was decided not to take any direct action, but K S Yu was severely reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care when shifting ground. About the 600 Metres, CHIEF'S FORTUNE lost ground when unable to maintain running between WORLD STAR and FURIOSO. In the early part of the Straight, WORLD STAR shifted out, causing some inconvenience to CHIEF'S FORTUNE. In the Straight, FURIOSO hung in. K S Yu (GOLDEN BULLET) explained he had been instructed from a good gate to ride the horse in about 2nd or 3rd position if possible; if there was no pace on, he was asked to lead. He said however GOLDEN BULLET missed the start slightly, was then crowded for room and got well back. In an endeavour to carry out the instructions given, he pulled the whip shortly after the start, but other runners had crossed and he was much further out of his ground than planned. GOLDEN BULLET was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
