Racing Incident Report

As the gates were opening, SIGHT FIRST, which was being held by an attendant, reared. The attendant continued to hold the horse by the near side rein as it was rearing, but as the horse was coming down, the attendant released its head, but SIGHT FIRST then put its head behind the partition into the adjoining stall. The Stewards considered all the circumstances. They were of the view that SIGHT FIRST had had an unfair start and therefore declared it a non-starter in accordance with Rule 28(ix). DANZIG CONTINENTAL was slowly away. On jumping, CHINA LEGEND became unbalanced and lost its position when crowded for room between BUSTER and ACCURACY. After this, CHINA LEGEND proved very difficult to settle, about the 1200 Metres stumbled when racing behind MEDIC HERO. Near the 800 Metres, CHINA LEGEND continued to race very greenly, became unbalanced on the heels of BORN TO WIN, shifted out, inconvenienced ACCURACY and obliged that horse to race considerably wider. Then approaching and rounding the Home Turn, CHINA LEGEND hung out. The performance of CHINA LEGEND was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. An inquiry into the reason for SCHOOL DAYS being checked at about the 200 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed. CHINA LEGEND was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
