Racing Incident Report

Whilst parading, it was noted that KINDRED SPIRITS had blood in its mouth. This was also observed behind the gates. The Veterinary Surgeon at the Start could not detect the source of the bleeding, he said the horse did not seem to be concerned in any way and in his opinion it was suitable to race. EXCEL KID was slowly away. Approaching the winning post the first time, CENTURY HORSE and NATURAL WINNER were tightened for room by SWEETHEART (D Harrison) which was shifting ground when not quite clear. D Harrison was told he must exercise much more care than this. Turning out of the Straight the first time, J Egan (CENTURY HORSE) said he was concerned his mount might have broken down behind and he began easing the horse out of the race and went from an ideal position to be in quite an unfavourable spot. He said shortly after he began to ease CENTURY HORSE down, it seemed to stretch out again and he therefore elected to continue on in the race. He went on to say however that about the 700 Metres he allowed SILENT PARTNER which was racing wide to go by him and shift in to race outside SWEETHEART. J Egan said shortly after this he shifted out on CENTURY HORSE and went around SILENT PARTNER in an endeavour to make ground. In view of all the circumstances, the Stewards considered that before CENTURY HORSE be allowed to race again, it should perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When CENTURY HORSE was steadied and shifted out at about the 1300 Metres, inconvenience was caused to NATURAL WINNER and SILENT PARTNER which was following. About the 700 Metres, IMPRESSIONIST steadied and shifted out from behind ISLAND WEST TREBLE, then approaching the 400 Metres shifted back in across the heels of ISLAND WEST TREBLE in an endeavour to find running closer to the rail, then in the early part of the Straight was steadied behind IRONIC COMMANDER. Near the 600 Metres, SWEETHEART and SILENT PARTNER came together several times. MAGIC HANDS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
