Racing Incident Report

The explanation regarding F Naude (TUMBLER) being late into the Parade Ring was accepted. After arriving at the Start, the Veterinary Surgeon noted that SHINING GEM had a small laceration to its off front pastern. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and in his opinion was suitable to race. Also after arriving at the Start, S Dye (CALIFORNIA KID) asked the Veterinary Surgeon to check the tongue tie which was fitted to the horse. The Veterinary Surgeon checked the equipment and in his opinion it was satisfactory. EQUUS ZEPHYRUS was slowly away. When the gates opened, SHINING GEM bounded in the air. SMILEY WIN left the gates awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SHINING GEM. Just after the start, RORY'S BID was steadied when crowded between CITI CENTRE and AMERICAN WIN which shifted in away from LEGEND OF WEI HAI. In the early stages, TUMBLER, which was racing wide and without cover, proved somewhat difficult to settle. About the 1000 Metres, GOLDEN BELL, which had a tendency to be laying in, was steadied when tightened for room between AMERICAN WIN and TUMBLER which shifted out away from SHINING GEM. K S Yu (CITI CENTRE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that near the 800 Metres he shifted his mount to the inside of AMERICAN WIN when not clear of GOLDEN BELL. As a consequence of this, GOLDEN BELL was carried onto the heels of EASY STAR and checked rather severely. EQUUS ZEPHYRUS, which was following, was hampered in consequence. After taking into account all the circumstances of this case, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for K S Yu to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 3 May 2001 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday, 18 April 2001. Rounding the turn, SHINING GEM had a tendency to lay out. Rounding the turn and in the early part of the Straight, EQUUS ZEPHYRUS was awkwardly placed between SMILEY WIN and GOLDEN BELL and close to the heels of CITI CENTRE. After straightening, EQUUS ZEPHYRUS was shifted in to find running, was then steadied away from the heels of SHINING GEM and shifted further to the inside of that horse to find clear running and go forward. About the 200 Metres, SHINING GEM and TUMBLER brushed. SHINING GEM was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
