Racing Incident Report

SIR GALWAY missed the start slightly and was further inconvenienced when tight between SMART HORSE and GUSCOTT, both of which shifted some ground. D'OR WIN left the gates awkwardly and shifted out. On jumping, MALAYAN PEARL threw its head about. From a difficult gate, WORLD STAR was obliged to travel wide throughout and for most of the race did not have any cover. Near the 1000 Metres, MALAYAN PEARL was unbalanced when awkward on the heels of ARRIBA-ARRIBA. When asked about the disappointing performance of SMART HORSE, E Saint-Martin said he had been instructed from a good gate and the pattern of racing tonight to ride the horse in front if possible. He said SMART HORSE left the gates well, but was unable to lead, he then took up a position outside the leader and in that spot travelled comfortably, but about 600 Metres out started to give ground and in the Straight he did not ride the horse out as he was concerned with the manner in which SMART HORSE was stopping. Further it was noted after the race that it had its tongue over the bit. The performance of SMART HORSE was considered to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SMART HORSE and D'OR WIN were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was noted that INDY'S GEM had lost its off side front plate. An inquiry into the reason for MALAYAN PEARL being checked at about the 400 Metres was adjourned until next Saturday 9 June 2001 at the Sha Tin Race Course.
