Racing Incident Report

When being boxed, FORTUNE MAKER became fractious and momentarily had its off side flank caught against the gate. The horse was released and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who reported in his opinion FORTUNE MAKER was suitable to race. GALLANT HORSE left the gates awkwardly and then shifted out abruptly. As a consequence of this, crowding was caused to RUN AND WIN, IDEAL PARTNER and to RISING INDEX. SUNNY was slowly away. Throughout the event, HYDROGEN POWER had a tendency to race ungenerously and hung out. In the middle stages, this caused some inconvenience to IDEAL PARTNER. D Whyte (COMME D'HABITUDE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(i)]. The careless riding being that at about the 100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out whilst riding it along when not clear of RUN AND WIN. As a consequence RUN AND WIN was crowded onto GOLCONDA, lost its running and was checked. After taking into account all the circumstances of this case, particularly the submissions put by D Whyte in relation to some difficulty he was experiencing with COMME D'HABITUDE, it was decided the appropriate penalty was he be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 16 September 2001 on which day he may resume race racing (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Happy Valley next Wednesday. RUN AND WIN and HYDROGEN POWER were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was reported that STRONG WIN was bleeding from both nostrils.
