Racing Incident Report

Prior to being presented in the parade, PLATINUM EXPRESS had its near side front plate refitted. Whilst parading for the race, TREASURE STAR kicked out and made contact with a rail After arriving at the Start, TREASURE STAR was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. CALIFORNIA TYCOON left the gates awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and brushed JOYFUL STAR, then shifted in abruptly and bumped the hindquarters of PLATINUM EXPRESS. On leaving the gates, FUN MANAGER threw its head about, shifted in and bumped BEAUTY FOUNTAIN. About the 1300 Metres, TREASURE STAR and HOLE IN ONE came together when awkwardly placed. From a difficult gate, EQUUS ZEPHYRUS was obliged to race wide and did not find cover at any stage. W M Lai (JOYFUL STAR) said he had been asked to ride JOYFUL STAR more quietly than has been the practice in the past mainly because of the distance of today's race. He said over a shorter trip he expected JOYFUL STAR would take up a more forward position. He went on to say when being ridden JOYFUL STAR did have a tendency to pull and proved a little difficult for him to settle. EQUUS ZEPHYRUS and JUMBO LUCK were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said EQUUS ZEPHYRUS was bleeding from both nostrils.
