Racing Incident Report

HANDSOME FORTUNE (Apprentice Y T Cheng) left the gates awkwardly, shifted out, shortly after this shifted in and caused crowding to HEAVENLY WIND which itself then shifted ground and unbalanced BACK SEAT DRIVER. Apprentice Y T Cheng was reprimanded and told he should exercise far more care when shifting ground. Shortly after the start, KAISER, which was being ridden along to maintain its position, was steadied when awkward inside GOOD SPIRIT. About the 600 Metres, TOP WINNER, which was having difficulty maintaining its position, got its head up, was checked when tightened between GIVE TO THEE which shifted out away from the running rail and BACK SEAT DRIVER which shifted in slightly. After being checked, TOP WINNER became unbalanced and shifted out. As a consequence of this, HEAVENLY WIND and WINNING MASCOT were crowded for room and became unbalanced. In view of all the circumstances, no action was taken. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, HEADING TO WIN hung out. After the 200 Metres and again near the winning post, HANDSOME FORTUNE, which had a tendency to lay in, shifted ground and bumped GIVE TO THEE. W M Lai (FIELD'S WINNER) said the horse left the gates awkwardly, shifted out, lost considerable ground and got well back. He said he had ridden the horse in the past and it does have a tendency to jump awkwardly. He said in the Straight the horse was finishing the race much stronger than he anticipated, but was inclined to hang out and proved somewhat difficult for him to ride in his normal fashion.
