Racing Incident Report

SOLO left the gates very awkwardly with its head up, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of HEADING TO WIN which was taken out slightly by SOUND LOVER. RORY'S BID was slowly away. EYE'S MAGIC missed the start and just after jumping bumped with CORE PRINCIPLES. On the first turn, SOUND LOVER was checked when crowded for room between HEADING TO WIN which had a tendency to get its head on the side and shift in away from CORE PRINCIPLES and AMERICAN WIN which after bumping with GOLD FLASK shifted out slightly. Because of all the circumstances, no action was taken. For some distance in the early part of the Straight, AMERICAN WIN raced tight between CORE PRINCIPLES and KEY LARGO. Just after the 200 Metres, SOUND LOVER was checked when disappointed for running between NO COMPETITOR which shifted in and KEY LARGO which shifted out. About the 200 Metres when the horse was shifting ground, Apprentice M W Leung (NO COMPETITOR) dropped his off side rein. S Dye (SOLO) said before the race the trainer had told him at its previous start at Happy Valley the horse had hung in badly with S King and he was to ensure he was careful with it tonight and not be involved in an accident. S Dye was aware at its last run SOLO refused to participate in the pre-race parade and had gone to the Start via the Home Bend. Also subsequent to its last run it had been noted the horse had blood in the near side nostril, but did not deem to have suffered a bleeding attack. Tonight S Dye said SOLO left the gates awkwardly and as he had been instructed by the trainer that SOLO was reluctant to travel inside horses, running to the first turn he ensured he stayed out and to try and find a position one off the fence. He went on to say in the Back Straight he was in a position between SOUND LOVER and CALIFORNIA TYCOON and behind KEY LARGO. He said SOLO continually hung in, made contact with CALIFORNIA TYCOON several times, near the 500 Metres shifted in and bumped with SOUND LOVER, then shifted out abruptly across the heels of CALIFORNIA TYCOON and lost its position. He said in the Straight he shifted SOLO out to find running and go forward, but the horse continued to race ungenerously with its head up, however, it did close the race off quite strongly. The explanations submitted by S Dye were accepted and Trainer J Size was told the performances of SOLO of recent times are causing concern and he must be aware if the horse continues in a similar way action will be taken against it. AMERICAN WIN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
