Racing Incident Report

DARLEY left the gates very awkwardly, just after the start bumped with TRY YOUR BEST. CALIFORNIA TYCOON was slowly away. PERFECT MOMENT missed the start slightly and just after jumping bumped the hindquarters of INCA ROSE. Rounding the Home Turn, HAPPY ECLIPSE hung out. For some distance in the early part of the Straight, SOUNDS GOOD was held up behind GRACE AND GLORY which was giving ground. About the 300 Metres, W C Marwing (CALIFORNIA TYCOON) momentarily dropped his off side rein. About 100 Metres out, DARLEY, which was closing the race off well, was accidentally hit on the head by the whip of G Mossé (MONEY STAR). H K Yim (GRACE AND GLORY) explained on jumping he lost the use of his off side stirrup iron. He said he was able to regain it about 100 Metres after the start. W Woods (TOP PRACTITIONER) said although the horse is 9 years old, it is dropping to a mark where it should be racing much better than it had shown at recent times. He said therefore today from a good gate he was asked by the trainer to try and ensure TOP PRACTITIONER was made to race and see if this would improve its performance. He said TOP PRACTITIONER left the gates only fairly as it usually does, he then rode along initially hands and heels, pulled the whip and ensured the horse travelled in a forward position. The explanations submitted were accepted. On pulling up, FORTUNE RIVER was making abnormal breathing noises. An endoscopic examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
