Racing Incident Report

PO ON WIN jumped a little awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ALBELA. FORTUNE DANCER was slowly away and just after the start was checked when crowded between ALL WIN which shifted out and KONRAD THE GREAT which was taken in by ME AND YOU. HIGHLAND LEGEND left the gates very awkwardly and threw its head about. On jumping, MANY HAPPY RETURNS was momentarily steadied and taken across behind other runners to a position at the rear but nearer the rail. Turning out of the Straight the first time, KONRAD THE GREAT was steadied to avoid the heels of ME AND YOU which was shifting in to race beside ALL WIN. Approaching the 400 Metres, KONRAD THE GREAT shifted out from behind GOLDEN SPIRIT, bumped HONG KONG VITALITY which had been racing wide for some time and obliged that horse to travel even wider. Near the 200 Metres, ALL WIN was steadied and shifted out to find running and shortly after this was checked when disappointed for running between FORTUNE DANCER and PO ON WIN which was giving ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. About the 200 Metres, ME AND YOU, which was improving, bumped GRAND FIGHTER which was weakening. About 100 Metres out, W Woods (KONRAD THE GREAT) momentarily dropped his near side rein. G Mossé (GRAND FIGHTER) explained over the concluding stages the horse in his opinion was lame, because of this he did not ride it out to the finish. Before being allowed to race again, GRAND FIGHTER will be required to perform an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, B Marcus (PO ON WIN) said his intention was to lead if possible. He said he was able to get to the front, but making the first turn when GRAND FIGHTER raced to its outside, he decided to try and steady PO ON WIN and take up a position behind GRAND FIGHTER. He said however immediately after he got behind GRAND FIGHTER, PO ON WIN commenced to over-race, got its head up and would not settle. He felt he had little option but to shift to the outside of GRAND FIGHTER. He said in the Back Straight when GRAND FIGHTER appeared to steady, he endeavoured to go forward, but as he did GRAND FIGHTER also went quicker and he was unable to get ahead of that runner. He went on to say PO ON WIN had a tendency to lay out as it usually does and made the Home Turn awkwardly. The explanations submitted by B Marcus were accepted. PO ON WIN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
