Racing Incident Report

Rounding the latter part of the turn and in the Straight, BULLISH hung in. Throughout the race, LIGHTNING BOLT hung in. W C Marwing (RARE COLLECTION) said the horse had been doing only easy work in the lead up to tonight's race, it was hoped that RARE COLLECTION would show its early speed and race towards the front. He said however RARE COLLECTION left the gates in a sluggish manner, could not keep up and despite his riding got well out of its ground. He went on to say RARE COLLECTION made the turn awkwardly, then in the early part of the Straight hung in and proved somewhat difficult to shift to the outside of BULLISH. He said after this RARE COLLECTION did make some ground in the run to the line and he went on to say after pulling up the horse was making unusual breathing noises. The Veterinary Surgeon said he noted RARE COLLECTION was making moderately loud and harsh respiratory noises as it was coming off the track. An endoscopic examination revealed the horse was suffering from a continuous epiglottic entrapment. The Veterinary Surgeon said if this condition was to persist, in the long term surgery would be required to correct the problem. The performance of RARE COLLECTION was not considered to be acceptable by the Stewards and before the horse can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. LIGHTNING BOLT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
