Racing Incident Report

On jumping, FAIR LADY was checked when tightened between AMERICAN CHAMPION and ORIENTAL TREASURE which shifted in abruptly. ROUND THE WORLD, which was restless in the stalls, came out very awkwardly and threw its head about. In the early stages, AUTHORISED pulled hard and proved most difficult to settle. About the 800 Metres, ORLANDO FLYER was momentarily unbalanced and threw its head about. Rounding the Home Turn, ROUND THE WORLD and AUTHORISED raced tight, ROUND THE WORLD endeavoured to shift to the outside of CHOCOLATE TYCOON to find running. Approaching the 400 Metres, AUTHORISED shifted out and bumped AMERICAN CHAMPION. Evidence was taken from S Dye (ORLANDO FLYER), K H Ting (REWARD) and W M Lai (ORIENTAL TREASURE) regarding an incident which occurred over the concluding stages resulting in ORLANDO FLYER being steadied near the winning post. It was established in the early part of the Straight REWARD, which had been racing in front, shifted out whilst hanging and then approaching the winning post when weakening commenced to shift in rather abruptly away from ORIENTAL TREASURE which itself was shifting in slightly running to the line. S Dye said approaching the winning post when racing about three quarters of a length inside REWARD, he was being tightened for room and appealed to K H Ting for relief. He said as soon as he called, K H Ting did endeavour to shift out away from him and allow him racing room to the line. S Dye said however the steady was a precautionary one, it was close to the line, but with the benefit of hindsight and with the knowledge that K H Ting did shift out when he appealed, he would have been able to continue riding ORLANDO FLYER to the line. The Stewards were satisfied that in the unique circumstances of this case a breach of the Rules did not occur and accordingly no action was taken. MILLENNIUM SPIRIT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said ORIENTAL TREASURE was lame in its off side front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ORIENTAL TREASURE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
