Racing Incident Report

CHIVAS LAD left the gates very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped POPULAR CHOICE. As a consequence of this, POPULAR CHOICE was severely checked. PERFECT SHADOW was slowly away. On the first turn, MUNDAHISH shifted in slightly and brushed WAIALAE WIN which in turn shifted ground and made contact with AMO. In the early and middle stages, MUNDAHISH hung out, as a consequence of this some inconvenience was caused to TAI PO FRIEND about the 700 Metres. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in. They were of the prima facie view that an incident may have occurred at the start which cast doubt on whether BOLD'N POWER should be declared a runner. After viewing the available films, the Stewards were of the view this was an inappropriate occasion to exercise the powers they have under Rule 12(19) and accordingly declared BOLD'N POWER to be a starter. It was established that after being boxed late, BOLD'N POWER was restless. The horse was standing satisfactorily, but then just as the gates opened put its head down, bounded in the air and as a consequence lost a lot of ground. Before being allowed to race again, BOLD'N POWER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. S Dye (ACE ACADEMY) said he has not been riding the horse any work, but it was anticipated the horse would run competitively this evening. He did say he was of the view the run of ACE ACADEMY at its last start was a little disappointing down the straight 1000 at Sha Tin as the horse did not close off as expected. He said tonight at Happy Valley over more ground where the horse previously has been successful, it was thought ACE ACADEMY would run well. He said the horse worked to the post nicely, but at no stage of the race was comfortable in tonight's going, was beaten a long way out and was generally very disappointing. He was unable to put forward any real reason for the poor run with the exception maybe of the track conditions. Before being allowed to race again, ACE ACADEMY will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. ACE ACADEMY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was noted ASIA STAR had lost its off side front plate.
