Racing Incident Report

SURPLUS was withdrawn on 4.5.02 on veterinary grounds (lame near fore leg). Before being allowed to race again, SURPLUS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Whilst parading behind the barrier, BILLION DELIGHT was kicked by another runner. The horse was trotted up, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations it was decided the horse was suitable to race. HOROSCOPE and OPERATION HUMOUR were slowly away. About the 1400 Metres, RED DIAMOND was steadied to avoid HORNET (Apprentice S K Sit) which was shifting to a position in front and near the rail. As HORNET continued across, some inconvenience was caused to LUCKY LAD and OPERATION HUMOUR. Apprentice S K Sit was told he must exercise far more care than this. In the early stages, RED DIAMOND was difficult to settle and pulled, and also MENDOZA which was racing wide without any cover in the early stages proved difficult to settle and threw its head about. For a short distance near the 200 Metres, BILLION DELIGHT had trouble getting a clear run. Near the 200 Metres, OPERATION HUMOUR was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside LUCKY LAD. Near the winning post, MILLENNIUM SUPREME, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded between MENDOZA and BILLION DELIGHT which shifted in away from CELLINI which was taken in slightly by HOROSCOPE. In view of all the circumstances, no action was taken. In the run to the winning post, HOROSCOPE was inclined to get in. Because of this, D Dunn stopped riding and straightened. CELLINI was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
