Racing Incident Report

HAPPY YEARS jumped awkwardly and bumped the inside of its starting gate, then in the early stages proved difficult to settle and got close to the heels of UNIVERSAL STAR. When the gates opened, ABLE MARSHALL bounded in the air, shifted out and bumped the outside of its starting gate. Approaching the 800 Metres, PLEASANT SUCCESS threw its head up when being steadied to avoid the heels of AMZA KING which was inclined to be pulling, also got its head up, shifted in and got close to the heels of CHAMP DRAGON. After this, AMZA KING became unbalanced and shifted out. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, ABLE MARSHALL was inclined to lay out, about the 500 Metres was bumped by UNIVERSAL STAR which shifted out slightly. About the 200 Metres, STRATEGIC SELECT was steadied and shifted out abruptly when disappointed for running between YACHT MASTER which shifted out slightly and PLEASANT SUCCESS which shifted in slightly. D Dunn (WIEN) explained the trainer had told him at its last run from the draw towards the outside WIEN had gone forward and weakened in the run to the line. He said today from the outside draw he had been asked to ride the horse pretty much how the race turned out, but hopefully he would find himself somewhere towards the middle. He was asked to ensure the horse had cover and was advised the connections were anxious that the horse not to stop as it had done at its last start. He said WIEN jumped satisfactorily, he was able to steady, take up a position behind other runners, was going to be able to find a more forward position, but HAPPY YEARS was shifting ground towards his inside and he settled down near the back. He said when in the clear WIEN did make ground and close the race off quite satisfactorily. He was of the view had the horse drawn a better gate it would have raced more prominently and still been able to finish off well. HAPPY YEARS, STRATEGIC SELECT and ABLE MARSHALL were sent for sampling.
