Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, STARWAY PATROL became fractious and momentarily got down. STARWAY PATROL was released from the gates and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. ENTERTAINING was slowly away. Near the 200 Metres, G Schofield (VISORHILL) dropped his whip. Over the concluding stages, LIFELINE EXPRESS hung in and proved difficult to ride out. S K Sit (GENERAL KINGY) said last Monday the horse momentarily got down in the starting stalls whilst trialing at the 1800 Metres. He said its work that day was a little disappointing. Today GENERAL KINGY appeared reluctant to stretch out in the early stages and then over the concluding stages he felt there was something wrong with the horse in the hindquarters. GENERAL KINGY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, GENERAL KINGY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in its left hind leg. Before the horse will be allowed to race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On pulling up, it was noted that STARWAY PATROL was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination was carried out by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was in the early stages of becoming a "roarer". However, at this time no further action is required. CAPE OF GOOD HOPE and CROCKER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 21 Oct. 2002) :
It was reported after the race yesterday GENERAL KINGY was lame in its left side hind leg. The horse was examined by Dr Brian Stewart, the Club's Senior Veterinary Officer, at the stable of Trainer K W Lui today. He confirmed the lameness is still present and in his opinion appears to be the result of an acute strain of a rump muscle of GENERAL KINGY, also a possible back strain.
He said the case has been referred to the stable Veterinary Surgeon for investigation and as previously reported, GENERAL KINGY cannot race again until it performs satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and passes an official veterinary examination.
