Racing Incident Report
FABULOUS was a little slowly away, was then steadied and shifted across behind other runners to take up a position closer to the rail. WINMARK missed the start, then about the 200 Metres was steadied and shifted out to avoid POPULAR CHOICE which was weakening. Y T Cheng (CHARIOT OF WEI HAI) explained it had been his intention in the early stages to try and find some cover, because of the way the race was run, he was unable to do so. He said near the 800 Metres, POPULAR CHOICE shifted from behind GREAT KID, this obliged him to race wider, still without cover and shortly after this he allowed MR PRESIDENT to go across in front of him. He said however MR PRESIDENT did not go forward as thought it would, he was carried back further than he wanted to be at a vital stage, but did not shift out and improve rounding the turn as he thought this would have unbalanced CHARIOT OF WEI HAI. He said in the Straight when he did shift into the clear and ride the horse out, in his opinion it continued pretty much one paced to the line. The explanations were accepted. W C Marwing (MR PRESIDENT) explained he thought the horse travelled better in the run tonight than had done on 9 October 2002. He said when the pace slackened in the middle stages, he was able to travel forward comfortably, but then shortly after when the pace quickened, MR PRESIDENT did not respond to his riding, failed to close off and he thought it was overall very disappointing. After the race, MR PRESIDENT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He reported the horse had sustained a laceration to its left hind fetlock joint. The Veterinary Officer said the cut was consistent with the horse having been galloped on and the injury was located directly over a major nerve. He said such injury was likely to have been very painful. Before MR PRESIDENT will be allowed to race again, it must pass an official veterinary examination. D Whyte (TELECOM BABE) explained from a draw towards the middle his intention had been to travel somewhere towards the front if possible. He said running to the winning post the first time, he could see the chances of him getting in towards the front were remote, he therefore had to steady and take up a position behind MR PRESIDENT which got him back further in the race than was the intention. He did say however TELECOM BABE did not finish as he thought it would, after the 600 Metres when put under pressure TELECOM BABE did not respond and in his opinion was generally very disappointing. TELECOM BABE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, TELECOM BABE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities detected. MR PRESIDENT, ON THE TEE and JUST VICTORY were sent for sampling.
