Racing Incident Report
Before Race 1, it was reported that GOOD MAN was very nervous and during the day it was box walking. The Veterinary Officer examined the horse. He said in his opinion it had settled down and was suitable to race. In the early stages, GUSCOTT proved somewhat difficult to settle and threw its head about. Near the 700 Metres, GOOD MAN started to give ground quickly and shifted in slightly, causing some inconvenience to SPEED WINNER which in turn caused HAPPY FORTUNE to be crowded onto the running rail and steadied. The occurrence was accidental. RISING INDEX, which was obliged to race wide and without cover, dropped out over the concluding stages. A Marcus (GOOD MAN) said he had been instructed by the trainer to give the horse a solid warm up, then to lead. He said the horse went to the Start keenly, left the gates well, but despite his riding was unable to lead, started to give ground 1000 Metres out and was well beaten shortly after that. GOOD MAN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that when he examined GOOD MAN, he noted it had sustained a dynamic pharyngeal collapse (the wall at the back of the horse's throat collapsed as it attempted to breathe in). Before GOOD MAN can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. RISING INDEX was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. The examination of RISING INDEX was carried out. No abnormalities detected. THISTLEJADE, DEEP PURPLE and HAPPY FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
