Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie on EASY STAR was refitted. CHIU CHOW HERO left the gates very awkwardly. MANSFIELD STAR missed the start rather badly and then in the Straight raced greenly with its head up. Just after the 600 Metres, CHIU CHOW HERO hung in away from RORY'S BID. This caused some crowding to EASY STAR. Near the 500 Metres, THE GRAND ROOF (O Doleuze) shifted in slightly and was momentarily close to the heels of AFICIONADO. As a consequence of this, HAPPY WINNING, which was racing to its inside, was checked, shifted in and caused crowding to EASY STAR. The check to HAPPY WINNING was one of some significance, however, the degree of carelessness exhibited by O Doleuze was in the opinion of the Stewards insufficient to justify a charge being preferred against him. However, he was told he must exercise care at all times when shifting ground and do all he can to avoid tight riding. Near the winning post, AFICIONADO raced close to the heels of HORACE'S HORSE which shifted out and about right on the winning post AFICIONADO and GOLDEN STRIDE bumped. The Stewards allowed D Whyte (EASY PUNCH) an opportunity of explaining the horse's poor run. D Whyte said he had been riding EASY PUNCH in some of its work and he was of the opinion this was quite impressive. He said the intention tonight was to try and ride EASY PUNCH somewhere about midfield and it was anticipated by the stable the horse would be very competitive. He said EASY PUNCH came from the gates slowly, got back and the way the horse was travelling it was not possible for him to put it into a position that had been planned. He said at no stage of the race did EASY PUNCH travel as he thought it should and in the Straight he did anticipate it would make some ground, but the horse was very much one paced in the run to the line. EASY PUNCH was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, EASY PUNCH was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had an inflamed throat (pharyngitis) and a significant amount of mucus (phlegm) was detected in the horse's windpipe. Before EASY PUNCH can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. HAPPY WINNING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, HAPPY WINNING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He performed an endoscopic examination and this revealed a significant amount of mucus (phlegm) in the horse's windpipe. Before HAPPY WINNING can race again, it must pass an official veterinary examination. THE GRAND ROOF and HORACE'S HORSE were sent for sampling.
