Racing Incident Report
THE FACULTY left the gates awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. As a consequence of this, some inconvenience was caused to PORT OF HOPE which had left the gates awkwardly with its head up. ENGINEERING WONDER did not leave the gates cleanly, just after the start lost its position when crowded for room between FORTUNE TONE and I AM OKAY, both of which shifted some ground. Running to the first turn, PORT OF HOPE raced ungenerously with its head up, then was reluctant to hold its position inside THE FACULTY and hung out across the heels of that horse. Near the 800 Metres, I AM OKAY and ETERNAL START bumped. From about the 700 Metres, ENGINEERING WONDER commenced to hang out badly. As a consequence of this, TRIUMPHANT DELIGHT and FORTUNE TONE were hampered and obliged to race wider. ENGINEERING WONDER continued to hang out rather badly rounding the Home Turn. In the run to the winning post, LASER GLORY raced greenly, initially shifting in and then shifting out, causing some inconvenience to TAKING THE LEAD. S Dye (KINGSTON WINNER) explained before the race he had been instructed from a difficult draw to not press forward and lead, but he was to endeavour to find a position with cover. He said on jumping KINGSTON WINNER shifted out away from LASER GLORY, running to the first turn he looked to his inside, anticipated I AM OKAY shifting across towards the rail and he would have been able to find a position behind TRIUMPHANT DELIGHT. He said however I AM OKAY continued to race well away from the running rail towards the outside of ENGINEERING WONDER and this obliged him to travel very wide. He said he did consider pushing forward to go to the front despite the instructions he had been given, however, because of the circumstances he elected not to do so. He went on to say at about the 700 Metres FORTUNE TONE shifted out abruptly on his inside, obliging him to cover a lot more ground and causing KINGSTON WINNER to become rather badly unbalanced, then in the Straight KINGSTON WINNER, although closing off, raced greenly. Whilst the Stewards accepted the explanations submitted by S Dye, he was told his ride on KINGSTON WINNER was not one of his better exhibitions and it is for his interests to display more initiative than he did on this occasion. ENGINEERING WONDER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, ENGINEERING WONDER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. TAKING THE LEAD and LASER GLORY were sent for sampling.
