Racing Incident Report

HOSSEGOR missed the start and was then checked severely when crowded between SIROCCO and FRENCH CONNECTION, both of which shifted ground. EXULTATION left the gates very awkwardly with its head up. As a consequence of this, F Coetzee momentarily lost the use of his near side iron. Near the 300 Metres, SIROCCO was steadied when momentarily held up for a run inside FRENCH CONNECTION. After the 200 Metres, when closing off strongly, SIROCCO (R Fradd) shifted out slightly to find running and continue going forward. As a consequence of this, SENSIBLE MIND, which was weakening, was crowded onto the heels of GALLANT HORSE and steadied. R Fradd was advised to exercise care at all times when shifting ground. In the run to the winning post, SIROCCO continued to shift out. E Saint-Martin (GALLANT HORSE) said today from a good gate and with the racing pattern which was apparent in the first, he was asked by the trainer to try and ride the horse in a box seat. He said GALLANT HORSE left the gates well, as is its practice proved difficult to settle in the early stages and several times got its head up. He said near the 800 Metres the horse again got its head up when being steadied into a position behind SENSIBLE MIND. Apprentice M W Leung (LUCKY VICTORIES) said in the early part of the Straight he shifted out to try and find running, he intended to go between ACE OF PACE and MAJESTIC WARRIOR, but when those horses shifted ground, he had to steady and shift out further. He went on to say in the run to the line he again was held up for running and as a consequence was not able to ride LUCKY VICTORIES out at any time in the Straight as he normally would.
