Racing Incident Report
Whilst parading before the race, AFFAIRE D'AMOUR shifted its right fore plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On jumping, ACE OF PACE knuckled, shifted out and caused crowding on its outside to UNIVERSAL PEGASUS and JUST VICTORY, both of which lost ground as a result. BELOVED PARTNER was slow to begin. Throughout the race, GLASGOW KISS was obliged to race wide and without cover. D Whyte (UNIVERSAL PEGASUS) explained when he commenced to improve his position on the outside of POT BLACK at about the 600 Metres, UNIVERSAL PEGASUS made a significant breathing noise. He said he continued to ride UNIVERSAL PEGASUS along, however, after the 100 Metres this breathing noise had elevated to a level that caused him concern, therefore over the concluding stages he did not ride his mount out as he normally would. He said however he did continue to ride it in an endeavour to hold the 4th place. After the race, UNIVERSAL PEGASUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. At this time there were no significant findings, however, the Veterinary Officer did point out UNIVERSAL PEGASUS has a history of a soft palate problem. In the circumstances, the explanations of D Whyte were accepted. POT BLACK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, POT BLACK was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He reported the horse was bleeding from both nostrils and also was displaying a heart irregularity. Before being permitted to race again, POT BLACK will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. However, as a result of having bled, POT BLACK may not be entered for a race for a period of 3 months. UNIVERSAL PEGASUS, STAR WARRIOR and ACE OF PACE were sent for sampling.
