Racing Incident Report
MONARDS was withdrawn on 9.5.03 on veterinary grounds (right eye corneal ulcer). Before being allowed to race again, MONARDS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. FERRULE was slow to begin. On jumping, HELENE MOMENTUM shifted in and bumped BULLISH LUCK. Shortly after straightening, KENWOOD MELODY and ANABATIK brushed. M Walker (BULLISH LUCK) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover today as when ridden more prominently at its last start the horse had failed to finish the race off after reaching the lead too soon. He said in the early stages he obtained a nice position trailing ANABATIK and intended remaining in that position until after the 600 Metres when because of the slow pace he felt it would be beneficial to gradually improve his position around ANABATIK. He said just prior to him commencing to improve his position, KENWOOD MELODY improved quickly around his outside and caught him unaware which meant that he then became pocketed inside that horse and behind ANABATIK. He said he therefore was not able to improve and had to wait for runners in front of him to go sufficiently forward to be able to shift out to obtain clear running. He said however whilst waiting for this to happen, initially HELENE MOMENTUM and then FERRULE also improved around his outside which meant after straightening he had to shift to the extreme outside before being able to obtain clear running. M Walker was told that his riding, particularly in the middle stages, in the opinion of the Stewards lacked initiative and that he should ensure he is fully aware of what is going on around him at all times. FERRULE, PRIME WITNESS and THANK HEAVENS were sent for sampling.
