Racing Incident Report
WINMARK was slow to begin. WINNING WAYS began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. DOMINATION began awkwardly. After the 1000 Metres, UNIVERSAL PIONEER, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up and shifted out when close to the heels of CITY FORTUNE. This caused inconvenience to TIMBER CITY which as a result was initially carried wider, then was steadied and shifted in behind UNIVERSAL PIONEER. For some distance after the 400 Metres, O' SHINY had difficulty obtaining clear running between KING HORSE and FIRST KNIGHT, near the 300 Metres was steadied and shifted to the inside of FIRST KNIGHT in an attempt to find clear running, however, again was immediately steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of BULLSHOT which was giving ground, then after the 100 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running between FIRST KNIGHT and ELVIS. Over about the final 100 Metres, TIMBER CITY raced tight inside WINNING WAYS and was brushed on a number of occasions due mainly to WINNING WAYS shifting in. R Fradd (CITY FORTUNE) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in a forward position today. He said CITY FORTUNE began only fairly, he then rode it along in the early stages, however, it soon became apparent to him that GIVE ME FIVE and BULLSHOT would cross him, so he elected to steady his mount in the hope of finding some cover. He said near the 800 Metres ELVIS shifted across to race three wide outside the leaders and this provided him with cover, then on straightening he shifted CITY FORTUNE into the clear, however, the horse failed to respond to his riding. He said in his opinion CITY FORTUNE raced in a manner which suggests it would need 1600 Metres to race with the lead. WINMARK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of WINMARK after the race did not show any significant findings. DRAGON WIN and TIMBER CITY were sent for sampling.
