Racing Incident Report

DEEP PURPLE was slow to begin and shortly after the start was bumped by COSMO SUCCESS which shifted in abruptly after being bumped by THE PIONEER. DESERT STORM was slow to begin. On straightening, DESERT STORM was steadied away from the heels of LIGHT FOOT, then after the 400 Metres was again steadied when disappointed for running between LIGHT FOOT and COSMO SUCCESS, both of which shifted ground. After the 100 Metres, GOOD FIT was carried in by HAPPY CONTENDER (Apprentice C K Tong) which shifted in when giving ground. Near the 100 Metres, GOOD FIT was steadied when HAPPY CONTENDER shifted in across its running. Because of this, GOOD FIT was not ridden out to the line. Apprentice C K Tong will be reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. Over the concluding stages, FIVE GRAINS shifted out abruptly. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by W Woods, the rider of HEALTHY WEALTHY, which finished 2nd, against ZERUBBABEL (F Coetzee) being declared the winner. W Woods had alleged interference to his mount over the final 200 Metres. The Stewards believed whilst ZERUBBABEL shifted some ground in over the final 100 Metres and inconvenienced HEALTHY WEALTHY, they did not consider bearing in mind the three quarters of a length margin between the horses at the finish that HEALTHY WEALTHY would have finished in front of ZERUBBABEL had the interference which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. Y T Cheng (COSMO SUCCESS) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 5th or 6th position. He said however after being interfered with at the start he immediately shifted his horse across behind runners in the hope of obtaining a position close to the rail, however, after the 1700 Metres he was crowded for room between SPECIFIC SORCEROR and DESERT STORM which caused him to lose a little further ground. He said near the 1600 Metres he felt COSMO SUCCESS was not properly balanced and because of this he looked down to both of the horse's front legs to ensure there was nothing amiss. COSMO SUCCESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of COSMO SUCCESS after the race did not show any significant findings. FIVE GRAINS, ZERUBBABEL and HEALTHY WEALTHY were sent for sampling.
