Racing Incident Report
EXULTATION was slow to begin. RISING WIN began awkwardly. BUDDIES POWER began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall, then shortly afterwards was further steadied when crowded for room between OPTIC FRIENDLY and JUST IN TIME. From an awkward gate, COMPASSIONATE raced wide and without cover throughout and then from about the 600 Metres gave ground. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, OPTIC FRIENDLY, which was being carried out slightly by EXULTATION, was bumped on the hindquarters by TURBOJET which at the same time was shifting in. As a result of this incident, both OPTIC FRIENDLY and TURBOJET became unbalanced. Near the 200 Metres, OPTIC FRIENDLY was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside COUNTRY DRAGON. Also near the 200 Metres, K C Tsang, the rider of COMPASSIONATE, accidentally dropped his whip. For some distance after the 200 Metres, EXULTATION raced tight outside JUST IN TIME which had its head on the side and was shifting out. H K Yim (RISING WIN) explained passing the winning post on the first occasion the horse changed legs and became a little unbalanced, because of this his foot slipped from the right side stirrup. He said despite his efforts it took him about 100 Metres to regain the use of the stirrup. G Mossé (EXULTATION) said after entering the Back Straight EXULTATION shifted out to be in a three wide position. He said shortly after this he commenced to shift back in to be two wide, however, TURBOJET had commenced to improve on his inside and after receiving a call from J Holder, the rider of that horse, he then remained in a three wide position. He said to have shifted in would have caused interference to TURBOJET. He said he was aware COMPASSIONATE which had been racing three wide was commencing to give ground, however, considering EXULTATION was carrying 129 lbs, he did not believe it would have been in the best interest of the horse to have shifted to the outside of COMPASSIONATE and commence to improve his position around that horse after the 700 Metres. He said in his opinion to have done so would have been detrimental to the chances of EXULTATION. EXULTATION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, EXULTATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. EVEREST and BUDDIES POWER were sent for sampling.
