Racing Incident Report
FORTUNE LAD began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. A BETTER DRAGON bounded in the air at the start and bumped the outside gate of its stall. From a gate towards the outside, MONEY EXPRESS was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail but at the rear. Near the 600 Metres, A BETTER DRAGON became unbalanced and bumped the running rail when being steadied away from the heels of WINNING ASSOCIATES. At the 200 Metres, MILLENNIUM LEGEND and WINNING ASSOCIATES which when endeavouring to improve on the outside of LIGHTING THE WORLD were checked when crowded for room between FORTUNE LAD and LIGHTING THE WORLD which after initially being carried out by GREAT KID (Apprentice H W Lai) shifted further away from that horse on its own accord. In the circumstances, no direct action was taken other than to reprimand Apprentice Lai and advise him in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. After the 200 Metres, BOXING DAY, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room inside ON SHAN EXPRESS which shifted in slightly while improving on the inside of ELEGANCE which was also shifting in at this time. No action was taken. P Payne (LIGHTING THE WORLD) explained the horse travelled comfortably in the run until after straightening, however, when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and over the concluding stages hung in. He said he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse, but did add the manner in which the horse raced gave him the impression it would be better suited dropping back in distance. LIGHTING THE WORLD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, LIGHTING THE WORLD was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. BOXING DAY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BOXING DAY after the race did not show any significant findings. ON SHAN EXPRESS and FORTUNE LAD were sent for sampling.
