Racing Incident Report

On jumping, ORIENTAL and ENVOY OF LIGHT bumped. WADADELIGHT began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, ACME OF SURPRISE was steadied when crowded for room between FLYING KENNY and VIPER CORP which got its head on the side and shifted out. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUNDAY DELIGHT was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FANTASTIC STAR which shifted in. Some inconvenience was caused to ENVOY OF LIGHT as a result. Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, ACME OF SURPRISE was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of WADADELIGHT which was being ridden along to improve inside DOUBLE PLEASURE which at the same time was shifting in to obtain a position behind VIPER CORP. In the circumstances, no action was taken. In the early and middle stages, FLYING KENNY proved difficult to settle. Near the 600 Metres, SUNDAY DELIGHT was steadied away from the heels of FANTASTIC STAR. Because of this, VIPER CORP, which was following, was shifted out to be racing three wide. After the 600 Metres, ENVOY OF LIGHT became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ORIENTAL. Some inconvenience was caused to TOUCH DOWN which was following. Also after the 600 Metres, FANTASTIC STAR got its head on the side and hung in. After the 200 Metres, DOUBLE PLEASURE, which was hanging in, was steadied away from the heels of SUNDAY DELIGHT which was taken out slightly by DRAGON STRIDE which shifted out. Over the concluding stages, ENVOY OF LIGHT was steadied when unable to improve between TOUCH DOWN and DRAGON STRIDE which was giving ground. R Fradd (DOUBLE PLEASURE) said in the middle stages the saddle on the horse shifted back and because of this he was at some disadvantage in riding his horse out. Mr C H Yip, the trainer of ORIENTAL, explained when the horse last raced at Happy Valley on 10 December 2003, he had on that occasion instructed M Kinane, the rider of the horse, to have the horse around midfield if possible. He said following the race M Kinane said to him that ORIENTAL was slow to begin, he ensured the horse was properly balanced and as a result it got well back, then closed the race off strongly on that occasion. He said ORIENTAL's track work subsequent to that race start had shown improvement and the horse was well fancied by the stable tonight. He said the instructions he issued to D Whyte, the rider of the horse tonight, was to have the horse in a good position around midfield if possible. FLYING KENNY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, FLYING KENNY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. FANTASTIC STAR, ORIENTAL and SMART WIN were sent for sampling.
