Racing Incident Report

VENETIAN MASTER was slow to begin, then in the early stages proved difficult to settle, threw its head about on a number of occasions, near the 1600 Metres shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of SHOW BRAVELY, then after entering the Back Straight was allowed to stride forward, however, for the remainder of the race raced wide and without cover. CHINESE KID began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of DON SEBASTIAN. MAIN ATTRACTION began awkwardly. Making the first turn, SHENANEGAN, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when momentarily crowded for room between CLAWS OF THUNDER and CHING HOI BOY. VENETIAN MASTER, which was following SHENANEGAN, was steadied to avoid the heels of that horse. Near the 1600 Metres, CLAWS OF THUNDER was steadied when crowded for room between SPECIFIC SORCEROR and CHING HOI BOY. On two occasions after the 1600 Metres, CHINESE KID became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of MAIN ATTRACTION which itself was close to the heels of PORT OF HOPE. After this, CHINESE KID proved difficult to settle. In the middle stages, CHING HOI BOY proved difficult to settle and in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. CHING HOI BOY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of CHING HOI BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CHING HOI BOY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHING HOI BOY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. G Mossé (SUPER DANA) explained in recent times the horse had been ridden in a rearward position, however, it failed to close its races off, therefore today from a wide barrier he had been instructed to go forward on the horse and ride it more prominently. Mr D A Hayes, trainer of the horse, explained at its last start in his opinion SUPER DANA got too far back and when racing in this position failed to close the race off. He said because of this he had told G Mossé to ride the horse along in the early stages to make sure it was concentrating. He said however he did not anticipate SUPER DANA would travel as far forward as it did today. The explanation submitted by Mr Hayes was accepted. DR WELL and MAIN ATTRACTION were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 7 June 2004)
VENETIAN MASTER was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time the horse was found to be lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, VENETIAN MASTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
