Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, X-SPEED reared and began awkwardly. MIGHTY POWER began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, WISDOM EXPRESS, which had drawn the outside gate, got its head up when being steadied to shift across behind runners. Also on jumping, GREAT STAR got its head up and lost ground. LIGHTING THE WORLD began awkwardly. Near the 1200 Metres, GREAT STAR, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PERFECT SCORE which shifted in when not quite clear. At the 1200 Metres, MIGHTY POWER, which was racing ungenerously, was steadied away from the heels of WIN DANCER. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, GREAT STAR, which continued to prove difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of PERFECT SCORE. In the middle stages, MIGHTY POWER hung out badly. Prior to straightening, TIMBER CITY bumped the running rail when crowded for room inside LIGHTING THE WORLD. At the 400 Metres, GREAT STAR was steadied when disappointed for running between PERFECT SCORE and CHEERFUL BOY which shifted out. Near the 100 Metres, GOLD DIGGER, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when crowded for room between SPARKLE which shifted out and GREAT STAR which improved into a narrow run on the inside of SUPER MARKSMAN which at this time shifted in slightly. HIGH PRICE raced wide and without cover throughout. A Delpech (SUPER MARKSMAN) said he had been instructed to have the horse which was racing in a visor for the first time today in about 5th position. He said SUPER MARKSMAN began well, travelled straight into the bridle and raced three wide outside the lead because he was not able to shift in as he was not clear of X-SPEED. E Saint-Martin (X-SPEED), which performed poorly, said the horse's work leading into today's race was good and it was felt it would be competitive today. He said after beginning badly X-SPEED was able to obtain a nice position in the run. He said on straightening X-SPEED was inclined to shift in, when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and gave ground. He said he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of X-SPEED. Mr C H Yip, trainer of X-SPEED, was also unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He confirmed the horse's work leading into the race was good and as such it was given a good chance by the stable. X-SPEED was sent for an official veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, X-SPEED was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings. The performance of X-SPEED was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, X-SPEED will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STORMY RUNNER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of STORMY RUNNER after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of STORMY RUNNER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, STORMY RUNNER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPARKLE and CHEERFUL BOY were sent for sampling.
