Racing Incident Report

MAGIC TEMPLE was slow to begin. TUSITALA began awkwardly. On jumping, SOCRATES was bumped by FLORAL DANCER which shifted in. Making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion, JOY TRUMPS was steadied away from the heels of BARAKA. Shortly after this, ELITE WIN was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside BARAKA. At the 1300 Metres, TUSITALA got its head up. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, STEP FORWARD bumped the running rail and was checked when crowded for room inside JOY TRUMPS which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from the heels of BARAKA. BOUNTIFUL, which was following, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of JOY TRUMPS and in turn MAGIC TEMPLE was steadied to avoid the heels of BOUNTIFUL. Near the 500 Metres, STEP FORWARD was crowded for room when improving inside BARAKA which at this time was giving ground. After the 500 Metres, MEMBERS GLORY was momentarily steadied when disappointed for running between CUPID and MAGIC TOUCH which shifted out. After the 300 Metres, MAGIC TOUCH, which was beginning to close the race off, was steadied and shifted to the inside of the heels of BOUNTIFUL. Shortly after this, MAGIC TOUCH was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed between TUSITALA and BOUNTIFUL. At this time, JOY TRUMPS was steadied when crowded for room between MAGIC TOUCH which shifted in slightly and WINWIN COMBO which shifted out. No action was taken. D Dunn (BARAKA) said the horse's connections had been somewhat disappointed with the manner in which the horse had been racing. He said at its most recent start he was asked to ride the horse further forward and as such travelled in midfield. He said on that occasion the horse performed better than it had previously, but today from a wide gate he was asked to jump and go forward as this was how the horse had performed best in its races before coming to Hong Kong. He said he ensured BARAKA began well, it then travelled straight into the bridle and he elected to shift across to race in the lead. He said however as he was not able to clear ELITE WIN which had been ridden to hold its position on the fence, he continued racing one wide. He said when FLORAL DANCER improved to his outside mid-race, he elected to allow that horse to go on and shortly afterwards BARAKA commenced to give ground. BARAKA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, BARAKA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. G Mossé (CLEAN SWEEP) said the horse began well and as such he allowed it to travel a little further forward than has been usual. He said when JOY TRUMPS steadied to take a sit near the 1200 Metres, he shifted to the outside of the heels of that horse, CLEAN SWEEP immediately commenced to over-race, consequently travelled three wide and without cover for a short distance and passing the 700 Metres he was able to shift across and race outside the leader. He said in the Straight CLEAN SWEEP failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. He said in his opinion because of the circumstances of the race CLEAN SWEEP was disadvantaged by being ridden too prominently today. CLEAN SWEEP was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, CLEAN SWEEP was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CLEAN SWEEP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BOUNTIFUL and MAGIC TOUCH were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported TUSITALA had bled from both nostrils and that FLORAL DANCER had sustained a laceration to the right hind tendon.
