Racing Incident Report
PROGRESSING TIMES was withdrawn on 22.3.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right hind cuts and abrasions) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter AWARD (D Whyte). Before being allowed to race again, PROGRESSING TIMES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SURVEYOR began awkwardly, shifted out, bumped the outside gate of its stall and was steadied away from the heels of MILLENNIUM SPIRIT which shifted in slightly. PHOENIX FORTUNE was slow to begin and then lost further ground when crowded for room between KIMBO KID which shifted out and SHABU SHABU which got its head on the side and shifted in. Near the 1300 Metres, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT and SURVEYOR were momentarily crowded for room inside SHABU SHABU. After the 1200 Metres, KIMBO KID, which had its head on the side and was inclined to lay out, was steadied away from the heels of FREEBIRD which got its head on the side and shifted in away from COUNTRY BOY. From the outside barrier, COUNTRY BOY travelled in a forward position, however, raced three wide and without cover until near the 1000 Metres. After straightening, FLYING SUCCESS was shifted to the outside of SHABU SHABU to go forward. At the 200 Metres, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT was steadied to avoid the heels of AWARD which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, COUNTRY BOY, which was giving ground, was not ridden right to the winning post when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FREEBIRD which was hanging in. In the Straight, FREEBIRD got its head on the side and hung in. G Schofield (MILLENNIUM SPIRIT) said he intended to ride the horse somewhere around midfield, however, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT began only fairly and got further back than he wished. He said MILLENNIUM SPIRIT did not travel well throughout the race and after being inconvenienced when closing the race off at the 200 Metres the horse then was well out of contention and because of this he did not ride it out to the line as he normally would. SURVEYOR was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of SURVEYOR after the race did not show any significant findings. VICTORY MARBLE and SHABU SHABU were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported KIMBO KID had sustained a cut to the left front cannon.
