Racing Incident Report

SPECIAL LENGTH began awkwardly, shifted in, bumped the inside gate of its stall and as a consequence lost ground. JOYFUL WINNER was slow into stride. Shortly after the start, LUCKY WINNER was crowded for room between SHINY RIBBON and GALLANT KNIGHT which shifted in. Near the 1000 Metres, GALLANT KNIGHT was crowded for room between LUCKY WINNER and TAKING THE LEAD which was carried in by ELEGANT KING PRAWN (R Fradd) which shifted in when not properly clear. R Fradd was advised to exercise more care. After this, ELEGANT KING PRAWN proved difficult to settle and raced three wide outside the leaders. For some distance after the 800 Metres, LUCKY WINNER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DRAGON AND GOLD. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD raced tight inside LUCKY WINNER. For some distance after the 200 Metres, DRAGON AND GOLD was steadied when unable to improve racing behind TAKING THE LEAD which was giving ground. F Coetzee (SHINY RIBBON) explained today he sought the help of a handler in the barriers to ensure the horse began well as in the past it had lost ground at the start. He said SHINY RIBBON began well and he then rode along to maintain a position behind GOLDEN FARM. He said when other runners crossed to race outside him SHINY RIBBON did not travel well and he rode along hard in an attempt to maintain a position on the back of GOLDEN FARM. He said in the Straight he had some difficulty obtaining clear running, however, overall this was of little significance in the performance of SHINY RIBBON. He said in his opinion at this stage of its career SHINY RIBBON lacked maturity to be comfortable racing inside other runners. SHINY RIBBON, JOYFUL WINNER and ONE STEP AHEAD were sent for sampling.
