Racing Incident Report
Prior to weighed-in being semaphored, Mr C S Shum, trainer of SPECIAL KING PRAWN, requested to view the video of the start of the race to ascertain whether SPECIAL KING PRAWN had had an unfair start. The video showed prior to the start being effected SPECIAL KING PRAWN which was being assisted by an attendant became fractious. As the gates opened, SPECIAL KING PRAWN continued to be fractious and consequently lost a considerable amount of ground. In the opinion of the Stewards, SPECIAL KING PRAWN had not had an unfair start and therefore was deemed to be a runner. RAIDER was slow to begin. Making the turn near the 800 Metres, RAIDER was crowded for room inside ABSOLUTE CHAMPION which got its head on the side and shifted in away from HIGH INTELLIGENT. In the middle stages and in the Straight, KINDACROSS hung out and proved difficult to ride. In the early part of the Straight, ABSOLUTE CHAMPION hung out. Because of this, A Delpech, its rider, changed the whip into his left hand after the 200 Metres. When questioned, Y T Cheng (OUR JET) said after travelling wide without cover in the early stages he became aware making the turn at the 800 Metres that KINDACROSS which was racing forward of him on his inside was hanging out. He said because of this near the 700 Metres he endeavoured to come back behind KINDACROSS, however, his mount did not respond and as a consequence he continued to race wide without cover. He said shortly after this TOWN OF FIONN improved on his inside which meant that there was no longer an opportunity for him to obtain a position behind KINDACROSS. He said on straightening he commenced to ride his mount along as he was of the belief that KINDACROSS would not shift significantly wider in the Straight. He said when he rode along he committed himself to be outside the heels of KINDACROSS and when that horse continued to shift ground in the Straight he was carried wider. BILLET EXPRESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BILLET EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. FIGURES and SCINTILLATION were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported KINDACROSS had returned bleeding from the mouth as a result of a laceration to the tongue.
